Akron, Ohio – May 7, 2008 – Ken Love, an award winning photographer, has more than 20 years of experience in capturing the moment and photography in unusual settings. In addition to wedding and news journalism photography, he also specializes in senior portraits and brings his artistic flair to the set.
“Prom season provides a unique set of challenges for parents who want to capture the special mood of this memorable occasion,” explains Love. “Having more natural photos helps the subjects to relax and also communicates the emotions of the day.”
- Plan the location: Use a simple background. If it’s outdoors, perhaps use evergreen trees as a background. Remember the heels of high heeled shoes will sink into wet grass. Try to find a place for them to stand that has solid footing.
- Plan for lighting: Have the sun lighting over your left or right shoulder. Light on the front makes the subjects squint. Light over their backs makes their faces too dark.
- Prepare your camera: Charge the batteries. Make room on your digital chip or be sure you have plenty of film in the camera. Charge the flash. Have the camera ready.
- One photographer at a time: If you’re shooting with the other parents, have one photographer shoot at a time. If you don’t the photo will end up with the subjects looking different directions or poor lighting from multiple flashes.
- Shoot many photos: Take multiple shots. Some up close. Some full outfit. Don’t make the subjects move. Move the camera. The more instructions you give the subjects, the more self conscious they become.
